Samsung's Mobile Phone Sales in South Africa Growing

Samsung sold 504,000 mobile phones in South Africa in the first half of 2005, while sales value reached US$157 million. The company forecasts that sales will double in 2005 compared with 2004, when it sold a total of 537,000 handsets, representing a value of US$155 million.

 

South Africa and other countries in Africa are becoming a growth market for telecommunications companies, as subscriber figures for the first and second quarter of 2005 of South Africa's MTN Group, which has operations in a total of six countries, indicate in the table below:
